A Hampton Court Palace Engagement Shoot

Updated: Mar 3

SJ & Ben’s Royal Holloway Wedding: A Fairytale Celebration

SJ & Ben are getting married this June at the absolutely stunning Royal Holloway. I cannot wait! The venue is like something out of a fairytale—think grand architecture, dreamy staircases, and the perfect backdrop. If you haven't seen how gorgeous it is, check it out here!

A Proposal at Hampton Court Palace

Ben popped the question last year at the fountain in Hampton Court Palace. Honestly, it couldn’t have been a more romantic setting. So when it came time to choose a spot for their engagement shoot, heading back to where he asked that all-important question felt like the perfect choice.

Seventeen weeks before the wedding, we met up at the palace. We took some time to get to know each other better while capturing gorgeous moments.

Why I Love Engagement Shoots

Engagement shoots are more than just a chance to get some pretty pictures. They’re about getting comfortable in front of the camera and having a bit of fun. They also give us a chance to connect before the wedding day. By the time June rolls around, SJ & Ben will already know what to expect. This means less stress, more laughter, and completely natural photos.

What to Wear for an Engagement Shoot

SJ & Ben nailed their outfit choices. They were effortless and coordinated without being too matchy. It was perfect for the soft, golden light of the day.

If you’re wondering what to wear for your own engagement session, here are a few tips:

  • White always works – It’s timeless and elegant, giving a subtle nod to your wedding day.

  • Complement each other’s outfits – Think about colors that go well together rather than identical looks. Soft neutrals, pastels, or rich jewel tones always look fab.

  • Consider the setting – A grand location like Hampton Court? Dress it up a little. A countryside or beach shoot? Keep it relaxed.

  • Most importantly, wear something you feel good in – Confidence makes ALL the difference in your photos.

Engagement Photoshoots – Not Just for You!

Many couples use their engagement photos for save-the-dates, wedding invites, or their wedding website. But beyond that, they are a lovely way to freeze this moment in time. Trust me, the wedding planning process flies by. Before you know it, you’ll be married!

Coffee, Pinterest & Wedding Plans

After the shoot, we grabbed a coffee and chatted through our shared Pinterest board. We talked about the images they’re drawn to, what’s most important to them, and how we can ensure every part of the wedding is captured beautifully.

We also started thinking ahead to the final plans. This included which group shots matter most and those little details that will make the day uniquely theirs. I love this part—when ideas start coming together, you can really feel the excitement building!

With six weeks to go, we will finalize the timeline. We will make sure everything is in place while getting all the little details locked down. If their engagement shoot was anything to go by, their wedding is going to be an absolute dream!

If you’re newly engaged and wondering whether an engagement session is for you—the answer is yes! It’s a fantastic way to get relaxed in front of the camera before the big day. Plus, you’ll have a gorgeous set of images to celebrate this part of your journey.

I still have a few engagement shoot slots available. So if you’d love some natural, joyful, and totally ‘you’ photos, get in touch! Let’s make some magic together.

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
