Celebrating Connections at the O Camberley Pageantry Event

The Group Photo

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a charity fundraising event organized by Thelma Smith, the current Ms Farnham. She gathered friends she met through pageantry for a fun evening filled with laughter and connection. As the group interacted, I was excited to capture both candid moments and posed portraits for them to use on their social media profiles.

When I arrived, the festivities were already in full swing. Attendees were mingling, sharing stories, and building new friendships. Some of them were gearing up to compete in a pageant the very next day, adding an air of anticipation to the event.

A Memorable Evening at O Camberley

The event took place at O Camberley, a vibrant venue where the group hosted activities like a raffle and indulged in some delicious chicken wings. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it easy to see why these women are so inspirational in their own unique ways.

I am passionate about participating in women’s networking events across Hampshire, Berkshire, and Surrey. These gatherings create opportunities for connection, confidence, and collaboration. They go beyond merely swapping business cards; they foster shared stories and support systems that uplift women.

Whether it's exchanging advice, celebrating achievements, or simply feeling seen, these events illustrate the incredible power of community. Everyone at this gathering was eager to share their experiences, and it was heartwarming to witness.

Crafting Unique Photography

One of my main goals for the evening was to provide each attendee with at least one flattering posed photo. However, O Camberley is a darkly lit bar adorned with neon lights. While this ambiance is great for artistic shots, I aimed to create my signature look.

To achieve this, I utilized a single flash mounted on a monopod paired with a softbox. This setup allowed me to create soft, flattering light without overpowering the venue's vibrant ambiance.

I believe that lighting is key in photography, especially in low-light settings like this. My approach allows me to capture authentic moments while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere.

It's not just about the technical aspects; it’s about making connections, and that includes working with the event attendees.

The Essence of Event Photography

Events like Thelma’s showcase where documentary-style photography and gentle direction converge. My role is to blend in, allowing the evening's natural flow while remaining alert for those candid, in-between moments.

I am equipped with my own lighting gear, making it feasible to work in almost any space—particularly in dimly lit bars. Relying on bright overhead lights can disrupt the evening, so I prefer to utilize my portable setup that supports an intimate setting.

Having all necessary equipment ready allows me to move quickly and discreetly. I aim to remain unobtrusive, so I can capture the event's true essence.

Want to Work Together?

If you're considering organizing a networking event, charity night, or group shoot with your community, I would love to be a part of it. I cover events across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, and beyond, bringing my expertise and creativity to every project. Whether you are looking for headshots, storytelling imagery, or a combination of both, let’s chat.

Conclusion

In summary, the O Camberley pageantry event was not just about competition—it was about fostering connections among women and sharing empowerment. Being able to capture such moments is a privilege I cherish deeply. The evening was filled with laughter, support, and inspiration, encapsulating the true spirit of community and collaboration. I look forward to many more events like this, where I can continue to document these amazing stories.

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
