Jessica & George's Elegant Surrey Country House Wedding

When Jessica and George planned their wedding at Frensham Hall, they weren't just planning a wedding day, they were creating one final celebration with the people they love before beginning an exciting new chapter together in Singapore. Jess, George and I have met before when I did their engagement shoot, and we've kept in touch since so it felt like seeing freinds when I arrived :)

Set within the beautiful grounds of Frensham Hall near Farnham, Surrey, their wedding blended timeless traditions, thoughtful personal touches, and a relaxed garden party atmosphere that perfectly reflected who they are as a couple.

As a Surrey wedding photographer, days like this are a dream to photograph. From emotional first looks and outdoor ceremonies to sunset portraits, fireworks, and dancing under the open sky, this wedding was packed with unforgettable moments from start to finish.

Why Frensham Hall Is One of Surrey's Best Kept Wedding Venue Secrets

Frensham Hall is a unique wedding venue near Farnham, Surrey. During term time, the historic country house operates as a private school, but during school holidays it transforms into an exclusive-use wedding venue.

Unlike many Surrey wedding venues, Frensham Hall offers couples incredible flexibility. With no immediate neighbours nearby, couples can enjoy outdoor celebrations later into the evening, play music outside, and even include spectacular extras such as fireworks.

The venue's historic architecture, elegant interiors, walled gardens and sweeping grounds create a setting that feels both grand and intimate. It offers all the beauty of a traditional English country house wedding venue while allowing couples far more freedom to personalise their day.

For couples looking for a wedding venue with exclusive use, outdoor ceremony options, beautiful gardens and fewer restrictions than many traditional country house venues, Frensham Hall is well worth considering. And I'm not affiliated with the venue, I just think it's special because it's different and I see a lot of venues!

Thoughtful Wedding Details & Jessica's Event Planning Background

As an event planner herself, Jessica had thoughtfully designed every aspect of the day. She had a labelled binder for the day and is likely one of the most organised brides I've ever worked with. However, while she was very organised, on the day she really let go and enjoyed herself which was a joy to see.

The styling centred around personal elements, soft greens, creams and neutral tones, creating an elegant and timeless colour palette throughout the venue. Bridesmaids wore beautiful sage green dresses, while the groomsmen wore cream suits with green ties to tie everything together perfectly (see what I did there!)

Jessica wore a stunning custom Suzanne Neville gown, paired with a bespoke Suzanne Neville fragrance that we photographed alongside her carefully curated details during the morning flat lay photographs.

Some of my favourite personal touches included:

  • Wedding invitations featuring an illustration of Frensham Hall

  • A gorgeous chopping board styled table plan (George is a chef!)

  • A custom-made Wordle game for guests during the wedding breakfast

  • Personalised Converse trainers embroidered with "G & J" and their wedding date for the evening celebrations

  • The groom plays basketball, there were subtle nods to this with his number on his cufflinks and for the groomsmen and basketball games on the lawn.

  • The three cakes were positioned like podiums.

It's always the personal touches that tell a couple's story, and Jessica and George had included thoughtful details at every turn.

Relaxed Morning Preparations

The morning preparations felt calm, organised and full of anticipation.

We began with detail photographs before capturing both bridal and groom preparations. I love a simple flat lay, a picture of the shoes and the dress and maybe a couple of rings but I think the number of these can be overkill so like to keep the total number of detail images under 10.

My approach to wedding morning photography is largely documentary, allowing moments to unfold naturally while providing gentle direction when needed.

Jessica was helped into her dress by her mum and sister Lucy before adding her jewellery and veil. One clever tip she used was securing her delicate necklace with a tiny dab of eyelash glue to stop it moving throughout the day, a useful trick for future brides!

Before the ceremony, we also captured a beautiful bridesmaid first look. With their eyes closed, the bridesmaids entered the room before seeing Jessica for the first time. The reactions were priceless and created some wonderfully emotional photographs.

An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in the Frensham Hall Gardens

One of the highlights of Frensham Hall is its beautiful outdoor ceremony space.

Guests are guided through a series of rose-covered arches before arriving at a picturesque ceremony setting complete with a waterfall and charming brick-built garden structure.

Jessica walked down the aisle with her father beneath brilliant blue skies while George waited at the end of the garden. As they reached the final stretch, they paused briefly to allow George a proper moment to take in his bride, creating one of the most emotional moments of the day.

Surrounded by friends and family, they exchanged vows and rings before officially becoming husband and wife.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with bright sunshine throughout the ceremony and celebrations that followed.

Family Photos, Confetti and Country House Elegance

After the ceremony, guests gathered for a joyful confetti moment before we moved into family photographs and a large group photo on the lawn.

Inside, Frensham Hall offers a completely different atmosphere.

The historic interiors feel wonderfully grand, with many couples describing them as having a distinctly Bridgerton feel (although Bridgerton was obviously way after the building of this estate!). The elegant architecture, period details and character-filled rooms create a beautiful backdrop for wedding breakfasts and speeches.

Guests welcomed the newlyweds into the reception with waving napkins and huge cheers before enjoying heartfelt speeches that had everyone laughing and crying.

Fun Bridal Party Photos That Feel Like You

Wedding party posing on steps of a grand brick manor, bride in white gown with groom in dark suit, bridesmaids in floral dresses.

One thing I loved about Jessica and George's wedding was how much energy they brought to their bridal party photographs. Jess and I had shared a pinterest board and we'd spoken about making these traditional images a bit more fun with some games and movement!

Alongside classic group portraits, we incorporated plenty of movement and interaction, including:

  • Running photographs

  • Lifts and dips

  • Group games

  • Editorial-style portraits

  • A dramatic "mob shot" across the venue steps

I do this with a portable speaker and a great soundtrack so I can keep everyone pumped.

The result was a gallery that felt relaxed, authentic and full of personality while still including those timeless group photographs every couple wants.

Golden Hour, Drone Photography and Garden Party Vibes

Because Frensham Hall allows couples to fully enjoy the outdoor spaces, much of the evening celebration took place outside.

As the sun began to set, guests gathered on the lawns, music played across the gardens, and the atmosphere felt more like a luxury garden party than a traditional wedding reception.

Bride and groom dance on a lawn outside a brick manor as guests cheer and clap in the background.

The couple shared a beautiful outdoor first dance which looked incredible from both ground level and above using drone photography.

As a Surrey wedding photographer, these are the moments I love most, when couples are completely immersed in their day and forget the camera is even there.

The golden hour portraits were equally beautiful. We created a mixture of soft, romantic images alongside more classic sunset portraits, taking advantage of the incredible evening light across the grounds.

Dancing, Direct Flash Photography and a Firework Surprise

As darkness fell, the celebrations continued.

The cake cutting was photographed using direct flash photography, creating a modern editorial look that perfectly suited the fun atmosphere of the evening.

Then Jessica shared a touching father-daughter dance before the party continued long into the night.

Then came one final surprise.

At 10:30pm, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the sky above Frensham Hall. Organised as a surprise gift from her Dad, neither Jessica nor George knew it was coming.

Using both direct flash and drone photography, we captured their reactions as the fireworks exploded overhead, creating an unforgettable ending to an incredible wedding day.

Comments

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
