How to Bring Bright Colours into Your Wedding Day

When it comes to wedding styling, many couples gravitate toward classic whites, soft pastels, and muted tones—but what if you want to inject some bold, playful colour into your big day? Last year, I organised a styled shoot that celebrated vibrant hues and creative styling, proving that weddings can be both elegant and full of personality.

Hosted at the stunning Stockton House, this shoot showcased just how beautifully bright colours can transform a space. Here’s how you can do the same for your wedding!

1. Start with Bright Colours in your Wedding Palette

The key to a bold colour scheme is balance. Instead of overwhelming the space with too many contrasting hues, choose a core palette with one or two dominant colours and a few complementary shades. For our shoot, Locked Events UK styled the space with a vibrant yet cohesive approach, showing how statement colours can work harmoniously together. If you're unsure where to start, consider pulling inspiration from your venue, florals, or even your personality as a couple!

2. Play with Florals

Your wedding flowers are one of the easiest ways to add colour and drama to your day. The Wild Garden Florist designed stunning bright colour floral arrangements that not only popped with colour but also added a playful, organic feel to the space for the wedding. Whether you go for bold statement blooms or a rainbow of delicate pastels, flowers can be tailored to fit your vision perfectly.

3. Statement Fashion Choices

Bridal fashion doesn’t have to mean traditional! Cupid Blue Bridal provided the most stunning dresses for this shoot, with sleek designs that can be fully customized. Mini dresses are becoming increasingly popular, and many brides are opting for a second outfit change—something fun and stylish for the evening celebrations! Sasha from Cupid Blue advises, "Wear what you’re comfortable in, even if it wasn’t a design you imagined for yourself. And always check the back of your dress in a fitting!"

4. Makeup & Hair That Complements the Theme

A bright and playful wedding calls for beauty looks that enhance your natural features while fitting your overall style. Our talented makeup artists, @mua_chloerebecca and @makeupbylaurenfaye, created timeless and glowing bridal looks that worked beautifully with both the setting and the models’ natural beauty.

Lauren explains, "I ensure my brides feel and look like the best version of themselves. We work together to find a look that makes them feel confident and happy!" Chloe adds, "I love to ask about the wedding theme—colour schemes, dress styles, and what features my brides want to show off." Their tips for pre-wedding skincare? Hydration, SPF, and keeping things simple to avoid last-minute breakouts!

5. Jewellery to Complete the Look

The jewellery, provided by Olive & Eden Vintage Jewellery, was carefully selected to match the colour and style of each themed room. Whether you prefer vintage-inspired pieces or modern accents, choosing accessories that complement your wedding palette can add a subtle yet striking finishing touch.

6. Venue Transformation: Don’t Be Afraid to Go Bold!

One of the most exciting parts of this shoot was seeing the space at Stockton House transform before our eyes. Chloe from @mua_chloerebecca shared, "Seeing the before and after of the space was fascinating! Styled shoots allow every supplier to showcase their talent, and this one was no exception." If you’re dreaming of a colourful wedding, don’t be afraid to experiment with backdrops, linens, and table styling—your venue might surprise you with how well it can handle bold design choices!

Final Thoughts

This shoot proved that playful and bold wedding colours can be just as timeless as classic neutrals. Whether it’s through florals, fashion, or carefully curated details, adding a splash of colour is a wonderful way to make your wedding feel truly you.

A massive thank you to all the talented suppliers involved—your creativity brought this vision to life!

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
