Joyful Vow Renewal at Hookhouse Farm

Celebrant www.madewithlovecelebrations.co.uk Emily led this beautiful 10 year wedding anniversary vow renewal at the uniquely beautiful and total hidden gem Hookhouse Farm this July 2025. I was so honoured to pop by for just an hour to capture the ceremony and a few little group and couples photos before getting out of the way so they could go and enjoy some bubbles and a meal at a nice pub down the road.

How romantic!

It's been one of those ceremonies that has me questioning if I should renew my vows, there's something so lovely not just abiout the reaffirming of those promises but also doing this with your children! Lucy & Pat have a 7 and 5 year old that were so pleased to be part of the day, walking thier mum down the aisle, smiling as thier parents read personalised vows, offering ribbons and wishes for the handfasting and even taking part in a game of rock paper scissors to decide on who gets to do the vows first. This will be something they remember forever and role modelling such deep and commited love has to be shaping them in fantastic ways.

Why book a celebrant for your vow renewal?

Make it yours, not a copy.

A celebrant-led vow renewal isn’t bound by legal formalities, so you can ditch the script and design a ceremony that’s truly personal. Whether it’s retelling your love story, including the kids, or adding handfasting, readings, or private vows, a celebrant helps shape something authentically you. Having seen both celebrant led and registrar led services I can tell you the celebrant is worth all the money for truly emotional ceremonies.

Freedom to choose the where and when.

With a celebrant, you’re free to renew your vows anywhere, at the beach at sunset, in your garden or maybe even the place you first met. There’s no need for licensed venues or strict timings. It’s about choosing a place and time that means something to you both, which instantly makes the day more memorable.

More than words on paper.

A good celebrant isn’t just reading words, they bring warmth, humour, and heart, setting the tone so guests feel included and you feel at ease. They’ll guide you through the nerves, keep things flowing, and make sure your ceremony feels relaxed and genuine.

Why do people renew thier vows?

Marking a milestone.

Many couples renew their vows to celebrate a big anniversary, a decade together, or simply surviving life’s ups and downs. It’s a way of saying, “We’d still choose each other,” and honouring how far you’ve come.

A fresh chapter.

Sometimes it follows a tough period — illness, distance, or challenges overcome. Renewing vows can feel like pressing reset: acknowledging growth, healing, and stepping forward together with new energy and gratitude.

Celebrating with loved ones.

For some, it’s about the wedding they never had: maybe you eloped, kept it small, or your family has grown since. A vow renewal lets you bring in kids, friends, and even pets, making it a warm, inclusive moment to share your love story all over again.

More questions you might be asking about vow renewals!

Do we need a legal officiant, or is a celebrant enough?

A vow renewal isn’t legally binding, so a celebrant is all you need to make it meaningful.

How soon or late can you renew your vows — is there a “right” time?

There’s no rule; some couples do it after a year, others wait decades.

Should we exchange new rings or reuse our originals?

Both are common — some keep the originals, others add an engraved band or eternity ring.

Can we write our own vows, and what if one of us hates public speaking?

Yes, and you can keep them short, read them privately, or have the celebrant read them for you.

How big or small should a vow renewal be?

It’s your choice — from an intimate two‑person moment to a full party with friends and family.

What do people usually wear — full wedding dress, suit, or something more relaxed?

Anything goes: wedding attire, smart outfits, or even coordinated casual wear.

Is it okay to have a wedding party or ask friends to do readings?

Absolutely — involve whoever you like to make it personal and memorable.

Family gathering in a rustic setting. Adults and children, dressed in formal attire, smile together. Two hold bright flower bouquets.

How do we involve our kids, pets, or family in the ceremony?

They can walk you in, do readings, hold the rings, or simply stand with you.

What’s the typical cost of a vow renewal, and what should we budget for?

It can be as simple as just a celebrant fee or stretch to a full venue, decor, and catering — totally up to you.

Can we have a celebrant‑led renewal at home, abroad, or in a completely unlicensed venue?

Yes, that’s the beauty — you can renew anywhere that feels right to you.

Should we hire a photographer or videographer?

It’s not essential, but many couples do to capture the moment and share with loved ones.

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
