Choosing a photographer for your post wedding photoshoot in Central London.

Updated: Mar 3

If you're looking for a place to take your engagement photos, pre-or post wedding photos or even looking for a place to elope, then central London is one of the most inspiring places in the world with iconic landmarks and epic views to boot.

Choosing a photographer for such an important photoshoot is undoubtedly a big decision but it shouldn't be hard, you only need to consider three main points:

  • Style & Approach

  • Packages & Price

  • Personality & Compatibility

My personal approach is natural, storytelling and documentary style, I'll plan a beautiful day for you both and then capture all the memories you make along the way leading to truly authentic images and memories for you both. To learn more about me and my approach and packages please do get in touch with me through my contact me page here.

''What backdrops are there in London?''

Central London also offers great variety and romantic settings with international significance such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Postboxes, London buses, and of course the iconic London phone box. And just a short walk from Waterloo you will find Covent Garden, St James Park, The Tate Modern and iconic bridges like London Bridge.

And then in only half an hour. You can walk to Saint Pauls. Saint Pauls is the backdrop for this gorgeous photo shoot taken in early spring, 2024. Before arriving in London, I suggest checking Google Maps to look at the length of time it takes to walk between locations. Also making a list of landmarks that you wish to feature in your photos. Alternatively if you are looking to hire a local photographer you'll find that your photographer already has suggested routes and paths planned for photo shoots in order to get the best out of London for your photoshoot.

London offers incredible diversity in locations for your pre or post wedding photoshoot and while in this gallery you can see clean stone and beautiful pastel colours. London also offers historic landmarks such as the globe and urban environments with artistic, graffiti skate parks and old dockyards. Whatever aesthetic you wish to achieve in your photo shoot, London has the backdrop for you.

''What is the best season for my post wedding or engagement shoot in London?''

London is undoubtedly grey and rainy at times, but there are beautiful sights and gorgeous photos to be taken in every season of the year. The photos in this gallery were taken in early spring where the cherry blossoms around Saint Pauls were blossoming and daisies had appeared in blankets across the fields of the parks, however, during summer you will find gorgeous, golden hour light ricochets off buildings, beautiful floral arrangements and decor outside shops and hotels and clean white stone in beautiful high-end villages around London including Notting Hill, where the wisteria is famous in Bedford Gardens.

"What Should I Consider When Choosing a Photographer for My Post-Wedding or Engagement Shoot in London?”

When choosing a photographer for your post wedding shoot in London you should consider photographers who already have shot in London and that may have experience with planning roots and getting the best out of the location photographers who are local to London can also recommend places to eat drink, or even have a reception if you're planning to have a micro wedding or elopement in London. I am a sorry based photographer with experience shooting in London and the surrounding areas and can recommend locations dependent on the time of year season and the aesthetic you are aiming for for your wedding photography.

When choosing a photographer for any shoot, you should also consider style and approach, including whether or not you wish photos to be candid, documentary, style, or staged and posed different photographers, have different editing styles that you may wish to consider such as if you were looking for a darker grungier look, or maybe a light and or a even a film focus.

You may also wish to consider photographers who have the appropriate insurance back up equipment and experience given that London, like any city has its own set of rules and regulations around professional photo shoots in public areas.

If you were planning your post or pre-wedding photoshoot in London from overseas, do get in contact with me and I am happy to help with recommendations for accommodation, travel, transport and anything else you wish to do. Trips to London can be highly personalised with so many activities, suiting all manner of personalities and requirements, such as historical tours, entertainment, loads for foodies and many renowned museums.

"What Are Some Tips for Navigating Crowds and Traffic During a Post-Wedding Photoshoot in Central London?”

During spring and summer, London can be incredibly busy. A local photographer will be able to navigate crowds in high traffic areas or suggest timings where crowds may be reduced. For example early morning to around 10 am.

Many of the iconic landmarks are relatively quiet on weekdays and there are hidden corners of London, including a great number of green spaces where crowds are minimal, but photographs can still be equally as iconic and epic.

You may also wish to source a photographer for your post or pre-wedding photo shoot that has experience in removing people from the background of photos. Here is an example of a photograph where I have removed people at a busy time of day.

"Can You Recommend Indoor Locations for Post-Wedding Photoshoots in Case of Bad Weather in London?”

There are many indoor locations in London that allow photographers to take photos with permission: on occasion fees may be applicable. I always recommend Wedding brokerage websites to navigate indoor locations for your wedding, elopement or photo shoot, such as Hitched or Bride book, or if you're looking for a location to support just the two of you and have something specific in mind, please do reach out as I have many suggestions and recommendations for locations for smaller shoots and can help plan and navigate the shoot on your behalf.

"How Far in Advance Should I Book My Post-Wedding Photoshoot in London Central?"

I'm looking to book your elopement or micro wedding in London you should aim to plan this as far in advance as possible as wedding photographers tend to be fully booked around 12 months in advance. If you are looking for a specific photographer to assist you I recommend reaching out to them about availability dates as soon as possible.

If you are coming to London on your honeymoon or after your wedding and want to plan a photoshoot, you could reach out to a photographer who can help you plan the photo shoot with your season and aesthetic in mind.

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
