Vintage Cars for Your Wedding

As a wedding photographer I love all things vintage, retro or nostalgic, the stories those details tell add a rich history and sentimentality to your day and one of the ways you can add vintage touches is through your choice of transport.

Choosing a vintage wedding car is about more than getting from A to B. Do I think you NEED a car? No, but they do sure do make for a great memory, fun photos and a little extra sparkle in your day.

Whether you love classic Rolls-Royces, quirky campervans or Art Deco glamour, here is what to consider so your car becomes part of your story, not just your schedule.

Vintage Cars to Match Your Theme

Think about your wedding’s overall style and if your theme is era specific, choosing a car that feels personal to you can help add to the emotion and memory of that moment.

Classic and timeless:

A white or ivory Rolls-Royce or Bentley works beautifully for formal, traditional weddings. Tiffany & Lou opted for an era specific car that suited them perfectly.

Rustic or countryside:

A vintage VW Camper or Morris Minor Convertible adds relaxed, understated charm. This one from Retro Electrics is a vintage car with a new electric engine which was facinating and so eerily quiet! I love the sophistication that this car has brought to the shot.

Bride in white gown with bouquet stands by a blue convertible. Groom in suit leans on car. Brick house and blue sky in background.

Glamorous and city chic:

A Ferarri or a sleek Jaguar Mk II offers old-school luxury. Details matter. Leather interiors, wire wheels, bonnet mascots and even colour choices can tie your transport into your venue and décor.

Chauffeur Driven or Not?

Most couples go chauffeur driven and for good reason.

Less to worry about:

Parking, traffic and last-minute nerves are covered.

Expert help:

Chauffeurs know how to handle big dresses, tight timelines and quick exits. Some of these cars are big & wide and it's good to have an expert on hand who knows its limitations and how to park it! The chauffer at ABchauffers was so lovely and great with the car.

How Many Seats Do You Need?

Think through the whole morning and what & who you need the car for.

Bridal party:

Bridesmaids or groomsmen often travel separately.

Parents or grandparents might need a second car.

Couple only:

A two-seater convertible can be perfect but check space for dresses, bouquets and bags.

Getaway or Arrival?

Decide what matters most for photos and atmosphere.

Arrival:

Makes a statement as guests see you pull up.

Getaway:

Iconic. Just Married moments as you leave the ceremony or reception. Some couples do both: arrive in something formal, then switch to a sportier car for the evening exit.

Practical Tips

  • Book early, especially for summer and weekend weddings.

  • Check the weather if you are eyeing a convertible.

  • Make sure your dress fits comfortably inside.

  • View the car in person to spot wear and tear.

  • Confirm timings and routes with the hire company well in advance.

Something Different: American Muscle for a Vegas Vibe

If your wedding has a playful Las Vegas or retro Americana theme, an American muscle car makes an statement. Think bright red Mustang, a classic Chevrolet Camaro or a 1960s Cadillac convertible. Imagine an open roof, hands in the air flying off into the distance. lush. OOooh and we can get drone shots of you from above!

Dolce Vita: Little Italian Cars for Amalfi-Inspired Romance

For an Italian-inspired wedding, nothing beats the charm of a classic Fiat 500 or a vintage Alfa Romeo Spider. They work especially well if your styling includes citrus details, soft Mediterranean colours or destination wedding vibes — and they always get a smile from guests.

Bring Your Vintage Wedding Vision Together

A vintage car adds character, style and unforgettable photos to your day. Whether you want classic elegance, countryside charm or retro glamour, choosing the right car ties your whole wedding together.

hi! I'm cat and i am a full time wedding photographer
(and a little bit of a photography geek!)

I started taking photos as a teenager, my Dad was a wedding photographer and I would often help him. In 2021 I left my corporate job with a dream and hope that I could make photography a full time job. Since then I have been pouring my heart and soul into this business and have been honoured to be chosen as wedding photographer for so many lovely couples as well as being a portrait and event photographer.
I TAKE CLASSIC, TIMELESS, DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH MINIMAL INTRUSION

But I will step in and offer gentle guidance when it's right to do so, I have learned over the years to read the room, anticipate the next move, hold space when needed and offer support when I can.

aRE YOU LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
When choosing a wedding photographer, consider their style, experience, portfolio, and reviews from previous clients. It's also important to discuss pricing, availability, and any specific requests you may have.

Don't forget to meet with them in person to ensure you have good chemistry and feel comfortable with their approach.

Once you have narrowed down your list of potential wedding photographers, it's a good idea to ask them some key questions to help you make your final decision.

Here are a few questions to consider:

  • What is your photography style? Do you prefer a more traditional approach or a more candid, documentary style?

  • Do you have experience with weddings of a similar size and style to mine?

  • Can I see a full gallery of a recent wedding you photographed? This will give you a better sense of their consistency and quality of work.

  • Do you have backup equipment in case something goes wrong on the day of the wedding?

  • How do you handle difficult lighting situations (e.g. low light, harsh sunlight, indoor vs. outdoor)? This will help you gauge their technical expertise.

  • What is included in your packages? Are there any additional fees I should be aware of (e.g. travel, overtime)?

  • How long will it take to receive my photos after the wedding? Will they be edited and retouched?

  • Can you accommodate any special requests I have (e.g. specific shots, family portraits)?

  • How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the day of the wedding?

By asking these questions and having an open and honest conversation with your wedding photographer, you can ensure that you find the right fit for your big day.
